Social media alive in Prince County

When Kerry Anne MacDougall was setting me up in the social network world she told me about the Island Tweethearts, the great ladies that started it and how she was invited to be in the group. After I took a few test Twitter flights I became acquainted with the Tweets from the group’s founders Carol O’Hanley and April Ennis. The more I read the more I learned about these inspiring, innovative, and supportive women. I contacted Carol and asked her if she knew any Prince County Tweeters. She Tweeted my enquiry, made several referrals and said if I got a group going ‘up west’ then maybe our two groups could get together once a year.

Being someone who likes to plan events that‘s all the encouragement I needed. Enter in the mix Amanda Kember one of Carol’s referrals. When we chatted I learned that Amanda had hoped to do the same thing. The seed was planted, now for some fertilizing. A few phone calls unearthed seven more keeners but finding an open date proved to be the biggest challenge. Doodle Poll, my fav new tool (thanks Carol), revealed October 4 as our launch date.

That Monday night four of us had a fantastic time at The Home   Place restaurant in Kensington. In attendance were Amanda     Kember, Sharon O’Halloran, Angie Cormier and myself. We     started socializing shortly after 6:30 and didn’t really come up for air again until close to 9:30. Relaxed conversations flowed easily over excellent meals ranging from one course to three. Two of us had martinis which are always a treat…in part due to the stemware. We were very well attended to by our server Marla who encouraged us to return after we’ve cycled through all the other local restaurants.

Our little starter group wanted to make the first Monday of the month our night out. Our next dinner is Monday, November 1 at The Maplethorpe Café in Bedeque. Owner/chef and Tweeter Diana is excited to be cooking for us. We’re really looking forward to the whole group making it this time. In addition to the aforementioned are: Nancy Beth Guptill, Nancy MacPhee, Buffy Boily, and Ronda Bellefontaine, as well as a few other hopefuls.

I almost forgot to mention that after much deliberation we’ve named ourselves the Island Tweeteneurs! Not everyone in the group is on Twitter but we’re working on it.
